Eurasian Collared-Dove (also known as Collared Dove)

The Eurasian Collared-Dove is a medium-sized, slender dove with a pale grayish-buff body, broad tail, and a distinctive black half-collar on the back of its neck. Known for its steady flight and monotonous cooing calls, it has experienced one of the most remarkable natural range expansions of any bird species.

Striking pattern featuring a dark charcoal gray to blackish base near the tip, sharply contrasted by a bright white tip and distinct white banding or patches along the outer webs, characteristic of the undertail and outer rectrix pattern of the species.

Pennaceous vane along the distal portion with tightly interlocked barbicels, transitioning to a slightly more plumulaceous structure near the base of the rachis. Intact condition with minimal fraying.

Smooth, firm texture along the pennaceous web with a matte finish. Flexible yet sturdy enough to withstand aerodynamic pressures during flight.

Distinctive black-and-white block pattern near the tip of the outer tail feathers, serving as a key diagnostic trait to separate it from similar mourning dove feathers.

Highly adaptable, commonly found in open country, agricultural areas, urban parks, suburban gardens, and farmsteads closely associated with human habitation.

Native to Asia, the species has naturally expanded and been introduced globally. It is now a widespread year-round resident across much of North America, Europe, and parts of Asia.

Acts primarily as a seed consumer and ground forager, serving as a prey base for various raptors and urban predators while occasionally competing with native species for resources.

Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura). Mourning dove outer tail feathers feature more delicate white tips and narrower, finer black spotting rather than the bold blocky banding seen in the Eurasian Collared-Dove.

The Eurasian Collared-Dove was not present in North America until the 1980s, when a small number escaped from a pet shop in the Bahamas during a burglary and subsequently spread rapidly across the entire continent.

Good condition, fresh appearance with intact barbs and clear coloration contrast, showing little sign of sun bleaching or physical wear.
