Mourning Dove (Carolina Dove, Rain Crow)

The Mourning Dove is one of the most familiar and abundant birds in North America. Known for its slender tail, gentle demeanor, and plaintive, whistling coo that often sounds like an owl, it is a frequent visitor to backyard bird feeders. Its plumage is predominantly soft grayish-brown with subtle pinkish-fawn iridescence on the neck and distinct black spots on the wings.
