Base color of soft grayish-tan to buffy-brown. It features a distinctive, large, oval subterminal black spot on the inner vane. The tip has a subtle grayish fringe.
Barb Structure
The distal portion is pennaceous and tightly interlocked, while the proximal base is plumulaceous (fluffy) for insulation.

Similar Species

Interesting Facts
Mourning Doves are known for the whistling sound their wings make upon takeoff and for being one of the most frequently hunted game birds in North America.
Condition Notes
Good condition; the pennaceous vane is mostly intact, though the plumulaceous base appears slightly disheveled from handling or molting.
