Common Raven (Northern Raven)

The Common Raven is the largest of all perching birds, known for its intelligence, acrobatic flight, and deep, croaking vocalizations. They possess glossy black plumage, a heavy wedge-shaped tail, and a massive, curved bill.

Solid deep black with subtle structural iridescence showing bluish-purple and greenish sheens under direct sunlight, typical of a mature raven.

Tightly interlocked pennaceous structure with well-developed barbicels and hooklets forming a strong, durable vane. The base shows minor plumulaceous softening.

Smooth, stiff, and somewhat glossy with a clean matte appearance under indirect light. Strong rigidity in the vane to withstand air resistance.

Large size, solid glossy black coloration with structural iridescence, stiff asymmetric vane structure, and robust dark rachis.

Extremely adaptable, inhabiting open landscapes, coniferous forests, mountains, coastal regions, tundras, and arid deserts.

Widespread across the Northern Hemisphere, including North America, Europe, and Asia. Year-round resident throughout its range.

Acting as intelligent omnivores and apex scavengers, ravens help clean up carcasses, disperse seeds, and play a crucial role in nutrient recycling.

American Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos). Crows are significantly smaller with smaller feathers, and northwestern crows share similar overlap in the Pacific Northwest but have noticeably smaller flight feathers.

Ravens are renowned for their high intelligence, complex problem-solving abilities, and playful behaviors, often engaging in aerial acrobatics just for fun.

Good condition with minor wear at the tip and slight surface smudges or fading. Vanes remain largely intact with minimal fraying.
